How to recover from binge eating during the holidays
How to avoid binge eating during the holiday season

In today’s episode, I will be sharing a guided meditation on overeating.

As I record this episode it’s thanksgiving in the US and many of my clients have asked how to manage the big turkey dinner and I thought it was an appropriate question that could apply for the entire December month. With year-end functions and the festive season around the corner, there is a lot of anxiety around not binge eating

I would like to share some insights on how to approach.

My client was in a panic about how she was going to survive the festive season!!

She felt she already had so many binge episodes during covid and she just could not face any more disappointment.

I used to feel extremely anxious in December, so many late nights, parties, celebrations and a holiday away from my usual exercise routine.

Now that I have control over my eating I know how to stay balanced during the festive season.

Here are some ways you can stay in control too.

Don’t skip meals to save calories for later

Hunger is one of the biggest causes of emotional and binge eating, make sure that your snacks are portioned out for the week and bulk cook your lunches so that you are not leaving your food zombie brain time to plant ideas about takeaways. Eat regular meals during the day, even if you have functions in the evenings

Don’t stop moving

No Gym? No Problem, Move your body in ways that feel good

Make time everyday to move your body in the way you love to move. If you love yoga, do yoga out of love for movement but don’t force yourself to run for example if you hate running. (but who wouldn’t love running? Lol only kidding, that’s my runners bias coming out)

Don’t distract yourself from how you are feeling

The end of the year is an emotional time of year and it’s easy to distract ourselves with Netflix, social media , alcohol and food.

Emotional eating is an indication that there is an imbalance in the body or mind, when we approach emotional eating with curiosity instead of frustration, we can start figuring out what our bodies need which means we can eliminate emotional eating

Gratitiude is the right attitude:

  • Make a list of all the things you are grateful for when it comes to your body , this can be as small your nose for letting you breathe, your feet for carrying you through life or your mouth for allowing you to taste amazing food
  • Make a list of all the times you did not binge
  • Be grateful for all the amazing memories of 2020
